With the poorer weather coming in towards the end of the flying season, Peter C announced that the weather for Sunday’s competition looked a little breezy but might be OK, so the competition was held on Sunday 20th Sept. Although it was bright and sunny on the day, the wind forecast proved accurate with a stiff breeze blowing up the strip. Five potential competitors and two spectators had turned up, so it was agreed rather than cancel we would have a static only judged competition.
Peter Irving had brought his Piper Cherokee, Richard Long brought his Percy Powell built Citabria, Peter Coulson brought his Covid lockdown built Fieseler Storch, Robert Barker had his Corben Baby Ace, and Colin Terry came with his ‘American Stearman’.
As there were no independent judges available, each model was judged in turn by the rest of the competitors, the criteria being- documentation, scale appearance, quality of construction and craftsmanship. After judging the points were added up, with Peter C’s Storch and Robert’s Baby Ace being very close at the top. In the end the Baby Ace won by a tiny amount.
It was disappointing that the strong wind prevented the flying section of the competition, nevertheless we all had an enjoyable afternoon, aided by tea and hot dogs from the back of Richard’s pickup.
Peter is hoping to still run the much delayed Aerobatics Competition if a suitable day arises, so keep an eye out for any updates via the usual club channels.
